Doggy Ways

Teach your dog to watch

* Hold a treat between your thumb and forefinger and let your dog sniff or even lick it and then slowly bring it up between your eyes. If your dog does not want to look directly into your eyes, bring the treat up to your left cheek bone or shoulder. As soon as your dog looks directly at the treat, CLICK / PRAISE and reward.

* When your dog readily looks up at you or the treat every time you can add the verbal “WATCH” command or visual hand signal.

* When your dog is capable of keeping his attention on you for 15-30 seconds you can begin to introduce distractions.

* As he learns the verbal command or visual hand signal, start to reduce the treats until he can perform the behaviour on the verbal command or visual hand signal only.
